What's Happening in Fayetteville, GA…

A rock group that defined the 1970s will soon be coming to Fayetteville.

Grand Funk Railroad first got together in 1969 in Flint, Michigan, taking their name from the Grand Trunk Western Railroad that ran through the city. Established as a trio, Grand Funk had their first big success that same year at the Atlanta International Pop Festival, and were asked back for the following year. The band patterned itself after power trios like Cream, a English rock band that featured none other than Eric Clapton on guitar.

Grand Funk Railroad today is a five-piece outfit that still boasts two of the band's founding members, Don Brewer and Mel Schacher. Brewer handles drums and vocals, while Schacher is on bass. Brewer wrote and sang “We're an American Band,” which sold millions of copies. The artists joining Brewer and Schacher played with other well-known groups. Vocalist Max Carl comes from 38 Special, and wrote their hit “Second Chance.'

Bruce Kulick, on lead guitar, was with mega-group KISS for 12 years, and notes that Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, KISS members, were influenced by Grand Funk early in their career. Rounding out the lineup is Tim Cashion on keyboards, who has performed with Robert Palmer, as well as Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band.

Grand Funk Railroad will be at the Southern Ground Amphitheater on November 6; gates will open at 7:00 pm. Poster printing can provide advertising for events like this.
