Folk-rock comes to Fayetteville

A group that plays “good loud music” will appear in Fayetteville soon.

Drivin n Cryin is perhaps best classified as a Southern rock band, as their name indicates. Lead singer Kevn Kinney says the band is a little like someone's record collection—the “drivin” is that driving rock sound, while the “cryin” comes from the country genre.

Based in Atlanta, the band first preformed there in 1985, at the 688 Club. Their fanbase grew quickly, drawn to the high-energy live shows, and continued to expand as the group found a home in the Southeastern United States in the late 1980s, where the music scene exploded. The band still has two of its founding members 35 years on – Kevn Kinney and Tim Nielsen. The lineup today is rounded out by Laur Joamets and Dave V. Johnson.

Drivin n Cryin have released nine studio albums and five EPs; their latest effort is “Live the Love Beautiful,” which dropped in 2019. However, the foundation of their fame, and their first love, is live performance. Kinney reveals how difficult this can be, explaining that all band members must be outstanding musicians who know at least 100 songs, and he expects them to be ready to play any one of them within a few seconds of him calling out the title.

The band will be at the Southern Ground Amphitheater in Fayetteville on October 30, with gates opening at 7.00 pm. Brochure printing can provide programs for events like this.
