Fayetteville to celebrate Georgia Cities Week

The upcoming Georgia Cities Week will see an eight-day celebration of community.

The impetus comes from the Georgia Municipal Association, a non-profit, state-wide organization founded in 1933 to help municipal governments become more responsive, effective, and innovative by providing leadership and services to help them achieve those goals.

In Fayetteville, the first day is devoted to history, with reenactors dressed in 1800s-style clothing showing visitors around the property at the Holliday-Dorsey-Fife Museum. Free tours will be given all day long by the institution's docents, and there will be 1850s-type games for children to enjoy. Artisans will also be on hand to demonstrate crafts such as wheelwrighting and blacksmithing.

Day three will be devoted to photography, with a reception planned for the winners of a recent photo contest. The fourth day is Public Safety Day, with both the police and fire departments setting up displays, and the fifth day gives people an opportunity to recycle and shred items. The next day is a blood drive, and the following brings a Lunch on the Lawn. The last day of the week brings three events: a community clean-up, a scavenger hunt, and a festival.

Georgia Cities Week starts April 21 and runs through April 28. Complete details are on the city's website.

Events like this present a great deal of information, so officials might consider working with a flyer printing company to create a schedule for attendees.
