Fayetteville is holding a Citizens' Police Academy soon, and is inviting interested residents to apply to attend the upcoming course.
The Academy is a semi-annual event, and is for people who think they might like to work in law enforcement, or for those who would simply like to learn more about local and state laws. Courses like this are held in cities and towns across the country, giving residents an in-depth understanding of the way local government agencies work.
Police academies are popular, but citizens' academies—focusing on the other aspects of governance besides law enforcement—receive interest as well. Facilitators of courses like this could use poster printing to create visual aids for learners.
The topics to be covered include:
• Defensive tactics
• Crime scene investigation
• Fraud and scams
• Traffic law
• Patrol duties, which includes an opportunity to ride along
Applications must be received by the police department by Wednesday, February 27, and background investigations will be conducted of applicants. Interested persons can pick up applications in the lobby of the police department, or apply online via the city’s website.
The Academy starts Wednesday, March 6, with classes held weekly on Wednesday nights, from 6:00 pm until 8:30 pm, until May 15, with April 3 off. Classes meet at the Fayetteville Police Headquarters on Jimmie Mayfield Boulevard. The course is free.
