Fayetteville art contest extends deadline

Fayetteville recently asked local artists to submit pencil sketches for the city's art contest, and has now given them a little extra time for submissions.

Last year's contest organizers asked residents to use photography to show how beautiful Fayetteville and the surrounding area are; this year, artists are asked to record their views of the city and county using pencil.

The 2019 Pencil Art Contest invites artists to use colored pencil on paper or canvas to depict a Fayetteville icon they particularly like. The works of the nine artists who are chosen as finalists will be displayed for a year at city hall, and there will be a first-, second-, and third-place winner named from that group. Flyer printing can be used to create a handout for events like this, describing the works.

Artists have to submit their own original work, either on paper or canvas, and the work cannot be larger than eight-by-ten inches. The city will keep and display the nine winners for one year; artists whose works are not selected can pick them up from the city.

The previous deadline for submissions passed on Monday, September 16, but it has now been moved to September 23, no later than 5:00 pm. Artists may pick up works not chosen on September 30. Fayetteville City Hall will be the site of a special reception to honor all the participants, at which time all the finalists and the three winners will be announced. The event is set for October 17.
