Fayetteville approves rezoning measure

The battle over a plot of land in Pinewood Forest appears to be over, with the disputed property to be used as a parking lot for Piedmont Wellness Center. Eventually, the lot will be transformed into a parking structure.

The progress is possible thanks to the city council's decision to allow a zoning change, from Office Institutional (OI) to Planned Community District (PCD). The rest of the Pinewood Forest development, which completely surrounds the property, is already zoned PCD.

Speaking on behalf of Pinewood Forest, Bill Foley said that making the plot part of the overall project will help connectivity, since it means one fewer curb cut than shown in earlier plans. Foley also promised the community that the parking lot, as well as the parking structure to follow, will be designed with an eye to blending in, and that landscaping will disguise much of the property, so that the plot will not resemble a parking deck.

Pinewood Forest is a mixed-use development that is adjacent to Pinewood Studios. It has been specifically designed to be walkable, and to appeal to creative people and others looking for alternatives to traditional housing. It comprises three distinct districts and a number of housing options, from single-family homes to tree houses.

Projects like this can benefit if developers work with a brochure printing company to create a booklet mentioning all the amenities, now including the proposed parking.
