Fayetteville announces art contest

For the second year, Fayetteville is holding a contest encouraging people to show off the area’s beauty.

The city's Finance Department has announced the contest, which last year was photography. This year, it wants artists to sharpen their wits—and their pencils—for the 2019 Pencil Art Contest. Contest organizers are asking artists to use colored pencil to draw their favorite Fayetteville icon. Nine finalists will have their work displayed at city hall for an entire year, and three of the nine finalists will be named as the first, second, or third-place winner.

The rules of the contest state that the artwork submitted must be original, done in colored pencil on either paper or canvas, measuring 8 by 10 inches maximum. The object of the drawing must be a significant icon found within the city limits of Fayetteville. Submissions must be either mailed to Carleeta Talmadge at Fayetteville City Hall, 240 South Glynn Street, Fayetteville, Georgia, 30214, or hand delivered. The entries must display the name of the artists, their address, phone number, the title of the work and an explanation of it, the location, and the date the work was finished. Brochure printing can be used to describe works in an exhibition like this.

The deadline for artists to submit their entries is 5:00 pm on September 16, and a reception for all participants set for October 17. Winners will be announced September 30.
