Jody Barrow, the Fayette County School Superintendent, recently announced that the Fayette County Board of Education is going to begin live streaming meetings of the school board, though no start date for the process has been announced yet.
The Lafayette Education Center was refurbished earlier in the year, and since then, the school system has been working to get the system up and running. Although live broadcasts have not yet begun, the meetings have been recorded, Barrow says. He added that as the facility begins to use the live-streaming process, they will have a place to archive the recorded meetings.
Barrow explained that no link has been published yet for people who would like to view the live stream. He hopes that before that, Fayetteville area students in film, television, and audio-visual programs in local high schools would enjoy coming to help with the broadcasting. This would help both the students, by giving them practical experience in their field, and the board, by televising the meetings. Procedures like this, which may be unfamiliar to many people, may often explained and promoted by flyer printing.
Live streaming these types of meetings is not new to Georgia, because some school systems have been broadcasting their meetings for a long time. In Forsyth County, for example, people have been able to watch live-streamed broadcasts of school board meetings for the past six years.
