Council reviews housing proposals

The Fayetteville City Council recently heard a number of proposals to do with housing projects in the city.

The first was a concept proposal from Rob Muller, who wants to build multifamily housing on Georgia Highway 54, across from the Piedmont Fayette Hospital. The development would comprise 254 units, as well as a swimming pool and tennis court, all of which would be placed around an already existing pond. The plan also leaves room for a medical office on the site. The developer was not looking for a decision on rezoning at this point, but was seeking feedback about the idea.

The council also reviewed elevations for a senior living development, known as HEARTIS, which was recently approved and will be located on West Lanier Avenue. Although the project was approved in December 2015, the council wanted to look at elevations to make sure the buildings blended with others in the area. The Planning and Zoning Commission approved the elevations last month with changes including decorative additions to eaves and chimneys, and wrought iron fencing on patios.

The council also passed a resolution to go ahead with engineering services to solve the problems of a clogged and damaged stormwater pipe that has caused flooding at a local school.

Council members might create Brochures to mail to city residents outlining recent council decisions.
