Broadway Diner plans approved

The Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission recently gave the thumbs up to a request from Steve Theodorakis, owner of the Broadway Diner, to build a new diner on Highway 54 West, near Grady Avenue. The new location should be open early in 2019.

At the planning meeting, Theodorakis said the building he is considering will comprise 7,477 square feet, and stand on 4.142 acres. He promised commissioners he would not disappoint the city if he was given permission for his project. The vote was 3-0 in favor of Theodorakis's proposal.

The new Broadway Dinner will have the appearance of American diners of the past. However, the design is a bit different from the styles of other buildings in or near downtown Fayetteville. Nonetheless, Jahnee Prince, the city's director of community development, said the planners approved the request despite the slight differences, because there is a legitimate architectural form known as American historic diner architecture.

A rendering of the proposed Broadway Diner reveals a white building with large windows, with a column of glass bricks near the entrance. Stainless steel double doors lead to the inside, and red tile accents the roof, while red trim runs along the eaves.

Businesses like this need to retain loyal customers and attract new ones, so owners could consider distributing promotional Pens or other products during the opening and for a few days afterwards.
