Georgia is one of several states courting General Electric (GE) in hopes the mega-corporation will relocate its headquarters in the state.
According to the Atlantic Business Chronicle, a delegation from Georgia recently met with representative from GE to espouse the virtues of Georgia in general, and the Atlanta area in particular, as a new home for its corporate headquarters. Reportedly, other states that have or soon will follow suit are Florida, New York, North Carolina, and Texas.
General Electric began the process of evaluating possible relocation sites as the result of the Connecticut legislature’s decision to significantly raise business taxes. This prompted Jeff Immelt, GE’s CEO, to announce to employees that the company would be weighing its options concerning a move to a more business-friendly state.
States, as well as large cities, are continually updating the information they supply to the Print companies that supply their promotional material. An analysis of the metro Atlanta area points to several advantages, such at the state’s business-friendly climate, the stream of engineering talent supplied by Georgia Tech, and the nearby Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Once GE’s exploratory committee has narrowed down its list of possible new home states, the company will bring touring sites within those states. GE Energy Management is already part of the metro area, being based in Cobb County, which will also likely play into Georgia’s (and Atlanta’s) favor.
