Midtown Alliance has added another sculpture to the city of Atlanta located at the Peachtree and 10th Street Intersection. The sculpture, entitled ‘Autoeater’ is an eye-catcher for those passing by, as it depicts a car being eaten.
The sculpture is the latest piece of art created for the Public Art and Street Activation Program created through Midtown Alliance. The alliance creates the artwork to enlighten the public with visual points of interest. Their goal is to encourage interaction and conversation for those viewing the artwork.
The art installed around the city is temporary and was solicited by the organization via request for proposals sent out in 2016. One way companies and organizations can distribute data like that is through a local Print company, using Direct Mail printing and other Mailing services.
The sculpture was created by artists Julia Venske and Gregor Spanle. It features a white funnel-like base made of Carrara marble, swallowing up a Fiat Panda automobile. The Panda was a popular auto that debuted in 1980, and Fiat has since sold over six million of the cars. The sculpture weights 16 tons and was brought over from Italy.
The location of the sculpture was chosen because it is one of the busiest intersections in the city, with over 40,000 vehicles passing by each day, along with over 2,000 pedestrians.
