One of Atlanta's premier annual events will take place next weekend in the city's historic downtown Auburn Avenue District.
The Sweet Auburn community puts on the event, which draws in the range of 350,000 attendees. This year will celebrate not only 30 years of the event but the life of Charles E. Johnson, a former producer and known as ‘The Mayor of Sweet Auburn’.
The Sweet Auburn Springfest is not only the largest free outdoor festival in Atlanta, but in the whole southeast as well. The festival features an abundance of art, fashion, food, jewelry, and live music spread out over a mile-and-a-half avenue of fun. Included is a Fantastic Fun Zone where children can enjoy rides and games.
In addition to the festival, the Sweet Auburn District is an attraction in itself. Just minutes from Downtown Atlanta, visitors can visit the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site. The site features an interactive center where information about the Civil Rights movement, and Dr. King's contribution to it, can be explored. A GPS Ranger Tour will take visitors to the Ebenezer Baptist Church, where Dr. King preached and is buried with his wife, as well the International Walk of Fame.
