Georgia Power’s annual Project SHARE campaign, which raises money to assist residents who need emergency help paying for food, housing, medical necessitates, or utilities, has begun.
The power company, in partnership with The Salvation Army, started Project SHARE in 1985. Although the program is in force all year, George Power uses December and January annually to highlight the program and actively seek additional support.
Customers who enrol in the program agree to make an automatic monthly donation. Their contribution, in the amount of $1, $2, $5 or $10, is added to their monthly utility bill. For its part, Georgia Power sets aside the donated funds and matches them with its own donation dollar for dollar.
Brochure printers are a natural choice for providing the literature used to explain the program to Atlanta customers.
Each year since its inception, the program has grown. Since 1985, the power company and its customers have donated over $64m. Last year, contributions were in the region of $2.5m which provided assistance to no fewer than 30,000 Georgia residents.
According to Georgia Power, money donated to Project SHARE provides assistance within the county from which it was donated. This means the money one Atlanta household donates, and the matching funds that it generates, may very well assist someone across the city or even down the street.
