The office of Governor Nathan Deal has confirmed what many in the Atlanta area have already suspected; Georgia’s movie industry has had a historically productive year.
According to the Governor’s office, movie making in the state over the last 12 months has provided an economic impact in excess of $6bn. Moreover, Atlanta has been the recipient of a significant portion of that money. Amidst preparation for the premiere of ‘Ant Man’, which was filmed in metro Atlanta, there is talk of Georgia evolving into an East Coast Hollywood.
According to Steve Brown, Fayette County Commissioner, much of the money Georgia has seen from the film industry has come out of Pinewood Studios, which is where Ant Man was filmed. The Fayetteville County company shot some scenes for the movie on location on Broad Street in Atlanta. Sites used included the Bank of America building and the state archives building.
According to Brown, the Georgia film industry has tremendous money-generating potential. The Fayette County Commissioner is a big supporter of continuing to give Hollywood incentives to film in Georgia and has stated that he feels the governor and members of the Legislature are in agreement with him.
According to state officials, 3,500 Georgia residents were employed for the filming of Ant Man. Information such as this dispersed with the help of a printing company could raise support from the public as well.
