What's Happening in Atlanta, GA…

Atlanta teens to learn basics of quilting

Sewing is a skill that can be used throughout a person’s life, and a workshop will give Atlanta teens a chance to try it out for themselves.

A class that will teach the fundamentals of stitchery by having teens craft a basic quilt has been planned for the city. Suitable for registrants from ages 12 to 18, sewing both by hand and machine will be incorporated.

The learners will begin by learning how to operate a sewing machine, and once everyone is ready, they will cut and stitch a rail fence block. Other techniques will be taught as well, and if there is enough time, the students will sew their quilt to its binding and leave for home with a completed quilt block. Lunch, as well as the use of a sewing machine and the materials needed for the project, will be supplied. Tickets to attend the class are $30 each.

Workshops give people an opportunity to learn new skills and also meet others who share their interest. Marketing materials for an activity will be available at a local flyer printing company.

This easy introduction to the basics of quilting is being hosted by the Atlanta Quilt festival, Inc., and will be held on August 6. It is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am at 915 New Hope Road Southwest.
