Atlanta Braves to say goodbye to Turner Field

The Atlanta Braves played their last home game at Turner Field last Sunday, October 2. The franchise has been located in Atlanta since 1966.

The team’s new location will be in Smyrna, which is located about 15 miles northwest of Atlanta. The new location, SunTrust Park, is on schedule and near completion. The team recently released floor plans and has announced a preleasing schedule for apartments that are located next to the park. It is likely the opening day will be a celebrated event complete with Banners, custom Drinkware, and Promotional Products.

The 2017 season will open at SunTrust Park on April 14 with a game against the San Diego Padres. The home games will begin at 7:30 pm next season to help alleviate traffic around the stadium.

Turner Field will be taken over by Georgia State University and will be converted and used for its football team. There are also plans underway for the University’s baseball team, the Panthers, to take over the Fulton County Stadium.

The final games were well publicized, with the team posting a farewell video to its former home in downtown Atlanta. The final games ended with a tiebreaker in a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers won the first game and the following day, the Braves prevailed.

Happily, the Braves won their final game at Turner Field 1-0, knocking the Detroit Tigers out of playoff contention.
