The Atlanta Braves have teamed up with A-R-T & Associates of Atlanta to install artworks at the SunTrust Park, their 41,500-seat stadium. According to Derek Schiller, the Braves' President of Business, the team decided to install the art so the park would feel like home to their fans.
There are about 300 pieces in the collection, all of them original works that highlight special moments from throughout the history of the Braves' franchise. The works range from action scenes to portraits, a LEGO mosaic, outsized vintage baseball cards, and photographs. In addition, the team plans to bring memorabilia from Turner Field's Ivan Allen Jr. Braves Museum & Hall of Fame, and place it throughout the park.
Monument Garden is in the concourse behind home plate, and is one of the areas where the memorabilia will be located. Featuring water, light, and audio elements, the focal point of the garden will be a statue of baseball legend ‘Hank’ Aaron.
Some of the artists whose work will be displayed include Belgian native Dominique Lobbestael, who painted portraits of 10 of the Braves' most famous players. Others include Alpharetta's Jason Williams (who did a LEGO installation), John Robertson (an impressionist), and watercolorist Richard Sullivan.
Projects like this can benefit if management works with a flyer printing company to create a handout for fans, identifying the artists and their works.
