Atlanta folks will have an opportunity to show January generosity as Totes for Tots returns.
For the past 14 years, Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS) has partnered with Northside Hospital Cancer Institute for a fundraiser to collect totes for foster children in Atlanta and other cities in Georgia.
Since the inception of the program, GCS has collected almost 50,000 Bags. Donations should include new or gently used Backpacks, duffel bags or suitcases. Local businesses can help support the event by displaying Flyers which will help raise community awareness
Currently there are more than 13,000 children in the Georgia foster care system. The ages of these children range from newborns to teenagers. As these children are often moved from one location to another, they need the ability to carry their belongings. To make this process a little easier, GSC does this fundraiser so the children do not have to carry their belongings in worn suitcases or even garbage bags.
The timing of the event is meant to honor Martin Luther King, Jr whose vision was to always give back to the community and support his quote “Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
This year, donations will be accepted at the Hawkinsville location of GCS Camp Creed on Thursday, January 12 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. On Friday, January 13, all other GCS locations in children will be accepting donations during the same timeframe. Those who are unable visit a GCS site can make online donations by visiting the GCS website.
