Workshop to show how easy fruit growing can be

Those who take a seat in an upcoming Plant City area workshop will learn the secrets of successful backyard tree fruit production, and everyone is welcome to participate in the event.

A ‘lunch and learn’ session, it will be focused on growing fruit trees on residential properties, and the learners will be treated to a free meal. Offered through the efforts of both the UF/IFAS Extension Polk County and City of Lakeland Water Utilities, attendees are asked to pre-register but there is no fee to be part of the event.

The participants in the one our long session will be given advice that can help them determine what type of fruit trees will perform best on their property and its particular growing conditions. They will also find out about the steps needed to get their new trees off to the best start, as well as techniques such a staking, pruning, and spiraling that can lead to fruit growing success.

Supplying budding horticulturalists with information sheets about the various species and cultivars that will do best in the area can help to make sure each of the participants will gain as much from the session as possible, and these can be provided by area Stationery printers.

Lakeland Electric Building, which can be found at 501 E Lemon Street, will be offering this educational event on July 26. Its scheduled start time is 12:00 noon.
