Funds to power training for high-demand sectors

Plant City has secured $2.5m in funding for a new workforce training complex, with a few towards ensuring that local jobs requiring technical knowledge and specific skills do not go unfilled.

Florida State Senator Danny Burgess and Representative Danny Alvarez have teamed up to secure the funding to aid in construction of a new Workforce Education Center (WEC). The facility will serve as a comprehensive training hub for the entire region, focusing attention on three high-demand work areas – healthcare, business, and technology. The fields offer plenty of opportunities for those trained, so the WEC will be pivotal in serving the needs of area businesses, as well as those entering or re-entering the workforce.

Some of the proposed services for the center include workforce training, job placement, and ongoing professional development for local industry. Student support services will include financial aid, advising, counseling, and veterans’ services. Business Cards and similar products from Print shops often facilitate business activities.

The project seeks to aid several underserved populations, including older workers, economically disadvantaged individuals, at-risk youth, people with developmental or cognitive disabilities, veterans, students, and those currently or formerly incarcerated.

The proposed plans for the Center include a commitment to tracking outcomes, including those related to employment rates, program completion rates, and community engagement. This will allow leaders to monitor and course-correct the curriculum and policies as needed.
