Project to make Plant City school a bit more green

A school in Plant City is about to get a little ‘greener’ and the public’s assistance is being sought to help make the plan for its schoolyard a reality. Everyone in the community is asked to lend a hand, and no experience is required.

Cork Elementary School will see the installation of a new outdoor vegetable garden that will include plants that are well adapted to the climate and other conditions found in Florida. Help is needed to prepare the soil, plant, and maintain the plantings, and monetary donations will also be most appreciated.

Parents, school staff, and the general public are all welcome to participate. Temple Terrace Farm 2 School will be providing support and other assistance to the initiative, and Tampa Bay Trane and Tampa International Airport have also thrown their weight behind this grassroots community effort. The goal is for it to not only provide a tranquil spot in the school yard, but to also help students learn about plants, food production, and other subjects.

The organizers of an event like this may wish to contact area Stationery printers when making their plans. It can supply everything from volunteer T-Shirts to certificates of appreciation for its sponsors.

The public will be rolling up their sleeves for the Green Apple Day of Service on January 19. The plan is for it to begin at 9:00 am.
