The Plant City YMCA is awarding this year's Strong Leader Award to George Banning at its annual dinner banquet next month.
Banning has a long history in the area and first made his mark in industrial and commercial real estate. He played a role in bringing Wendy’s restaurants to central Florida, and is still involved with the national fast food franchise. Other community contributions have included serving on the YMCA’s board of directors here in Plant City, as well as the city’s board of the United Food Bank. He is also a former president of the Rotary Club and district governor of Rotary West Central Florida.
Among Banning's other awards are the Meritorious Award for Service from the Rotary Foundation and the Services Above Self Award from Rotary International. The Plant City Chamber of Commerce also gave him its Good Egg Award in 2011.
The awards ceremony will feature a cocktail reception, dinner and the awards program. It is likely that this event will be widely advertised at various YMCAs in Plant City. This may involve posting Flyers and Signs that may have been obtained with the help of local Stationery printers.
The Strong Leader Dinner is being held at the John R. Trinkle Center on August 26, beginning at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $75 each or $1,000 for a table of eight.
