Plant City competition open for entries

Florida’s home horticulturalists are fortunate to be able to grow outdoors almost all year long, and a Plant City activity will showcase their talents.

The Florida Strawberry Festival Horticulture Exhibit will be 14 days of plant-themed fun. The exhibit will be on offer thanks to the efforts of the Plant City Garden Club, and there are several divisions open for entry.

The competition is open to kindergarten age children through to seniors, and there are both adult and youth awards. It is for Hillsborough County amateur growers, including members of area garden clubs, and there is no fee being charged to make an entry. It is for amateurs only, and everyone may enter up to five plants. Dish gardens, fairy gardens and terrariums will have their own categories. Applicants are required to provide the scientific name for their entries, and the specimens can be picked up on March 11.

A flower, vegetable, or other horticultural competition may have strict rules for the contestants to follow. Stationery printers can prepare Booklets of competition rules to hand out to anyone who applies to take part.

The annual Florida Strawberry Festival Horticultural Exhibit will be open to the public to view and enjoy from February 27 until March 9. It will be on offer at the Neighborhood Village Building located at 303 Berryfest Place.
