Annual festival celebrates the life of MLK

The 31st annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Cultural Arts Festival is taking place in Plant City for two weeks next month.

Commemorating the anniversary of his birth and recognizing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the festival is a presentation of the Improvement League of Plant City.

The first event taking place on January 6 will be the Old School Black Gala at Historic Glover School. Guests will pay $15 and will enjoy food samples, a DJ, and dancing until 1:00 AM. There will also be African-American tours around the area and an opening ceremony at the MLK Recreation Center on January 13 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM.

On January 14, there will be a street fest and the MLK Freedom Parade. The theme of this year’s parade is ‘Committed to Excellence’. The deadline to enter the parade is January 4. There will also be an MLK Leadership and Community Awards Breakfast and the MLK Gospel Fest on January 15.

It is likely this festival will attract people from all around the Plant City area to attend some of these events, or to appear in the parade. Many parade participants may invest in Banners to let spectators know who they are.
