Orlando stormwater drainage project makes solid progress

Improvements to the drainage of stormwater in the Ivanhoe neighborhood of Orlando are nearing completion.

This project will improve the drainage system in the area and enhance the control of flooding. The roads in the area will also be resurfaced. The existing potable water and sanitary sewer system will be removed and replaced and this will help increase the efficiency and capacity of both systems. It is also expected that the number of potholes likely to develop will be reduced with this new infrastructure.

The limits of the project area are West Ivanhoe Boulevard, between Harrison Avenue and Dartmouth Street. Additional streets that will experience improvements include Elizabeth Avenue between Ivanhoe Boulevard and 200 feet north of West Yale Street, University Drive between West Harvard Street and Ivanhoe Boulevard, West Yale Street between Harrison Avenue and University Drive, and Ivanhoe Road between West Yale Street and North Ivanhoe Boulevard.

Local Print shops often assist in spreading the word about such major improvement projects to those in the affected areas with Flyers and other printed materials.

The contractor for the project is Cathcart Construction Company. This is a general infrastructure contractor that builds bridges, roads, and parks, as well as working on wastewater, underground water, and stormwater projects.

The project is expected to be completed early next month. Once completed, the city will replace any speed bumps that were removed.
