Orlando seeks public artwork for new fire station

Professional artists are invited to submit preliminary conceptual designs for an art installation that will be a permanent fixture at Fire Station 18 in Orlando, which is currently under construction.

The city is looking for a three-dimensional structure. The courage, service, and professionalism of the firefighters of Orlando should be honored in this artwork, and it will need to reflect forward momentum and emergency response. It should also serve as a visual landmark for the fire station, welcome the community, instill pride among firefighters, and symbolize protection, readiness, and innovation.

The artwork should harmonize with the architecture of the fire station while remaining accessible and resonant for the public. It should convey strength, preparedness, and dedication to service, while celebrating the essential role firefighters play in protecting the community and surrounding infrastructure.

The budget for the artwork is between $50,000 and $53,377, which includes design, artists’ fees, engineering, fabrication, permits for installation, insurance, and other expenses. Only professional artists who live and work in the United States with experience in designing, building, and installing large-scale public art projects outdoors can apply.

More details about application processes and eligibility requirements can be made known with flyer printing.

The fire station is expected to be completed by February 2027 and the artwork is to be installed in coordination with the construction schedule.
