Orlando holiday concert to feature jazz legend

The Big Band Holidays tradition will continue this December in Orlando, featuring internationally acclaimed jazz bandleader Wynton Marsalis.

Marsalis, who is a nine-time Grammy winner and the first jazz composer to win a Pulitzer Prize, will lead the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in a big-band treatment of many holiday classics. The song list will range from familiar tunes like Jingle Bells to funkier sounds like Brazilian Sleigh Ride. In addition to Marsalis, the band will feature a dozen musicians, with many playing multiple instruments, such as percussionist Obed Calvaire and saxophonist and clarinet player Victor Goines. Alita Moses will provide the vocals to the holiday standards. The show will take place outdoor as part of Orlando’s Frontyard Festival concert series.

The Big Band Holiday show originated at New York’s Lincoln Center and is now a touring event with dates across the East Coast, popular with music lovers of all ages. After stops in Orlando and other southeast cities like Palm Beast and Atlanta, the band will return to New York for a straight week of shows. Concerts like this, typically advertised through poster printing, local radio, and other means, attract extra attention around the holiday season when many people want to hear Christmas standards with classical roots.

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra’s Big Band Holiday will take place in Orlando on December 4 at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.
