Orlando encourages locals to get on their bikes

Later this week, the city of Orlando will be hosting its annual tradition of Bike to Work Day.

Check-in and registration will begin at 7:00 am at the SoDo Shopping Plaza, followed by a group ride escorted by the police and Mayor Buddy Dyer through downtown Orlando to City Hall, which begins at 8:00 am and runs through 9:00 am.

City Hall Plaza will host a Bike to Work Day celebration for people to learn about the bike projects in the city and connect to local organizations such as the Orlando Bike Coalition and Bike Walk Central Florida. This will run from 8:00 to 10:00 am and provides an opportunity for local Print shops to create Flyers and other materials with more information.

There will be a limited number of Bird and Lime electric bikes for those who do not own a bike and want to participate in the event. Parking will also be free all day at the parking garage for the SoDo Shopping Center. People can opt to take public transportation to the event via the bike-friendly LINX bus routes or the Sunrail train to the Orlando Health/Amtrak station.

This event is free and organized by reThink Your Commute, a program of the Florida Department of Transportation, SoDo District Mainstreet, and the city of Orlando.

This event will be this Friday, March 22.
