Health system in Orlando pioneers technology for test results

The Florida Department of Health and Orlando Health have become the first in the country to use Detor.

This is a groundbreaking intermediary solution developed by the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL). It will enable electronic results and test orders to be shared seamlessly between healthcare providers and public health laboratories.

This project was funded by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It connects the electronic health records system of a hospital with the information management system of a public health laboratory. The sharing of test results and orders will be facilitated and can be shared more securely and accurately and will give healthcare groups and professionals the information they need to offer better care for their patients.

The Florida Department of Health Bureau of Public Health Laboratories and Orlando Health will use Detor for screening results of newborns at hospitals within the healthcare system of Orlando Health. Almost every baby born in the United States is tested for potentially terminal inherited and serious disorders, usually by public health laboratories.

News of such major technological developments and their benefits for the healthcare sector is often disseminated throughout a region with various printing services.

Chief Executive Officer of APHL, Scott J. Becker, expressed his pride in the successful implementation of Detor and its many benefits designed to improve the accuracy and data quality for public health laboratories and their clinical partners.
