What's Happening in Orlando, FL…

SeaWorld to offer Halloween drive-in movies

Orlando’s SeaWorld will be transforming into a drive-in movie theatre for this Halloween season, with each night featuring a double bill of spooky flicks.

The film selection consists of classic movies, with each night opening with a family-friendly offering, including titles like Frankenweenie, Beetlejuice and Hocus Pocus, before showing a grislier grown-up horror movie along the lines of Psycho, Friday the 13th, or A Nightmare on Elm Street. The duality might best be expressed in the October 24th pairing – a double bill of the friendly ghost Casper and ‘70s horror landmark The Exorcist. Tickets will be sold by the car and do not require park admission.

The drive-in experience, called Flicks & Frights, is new for this year and will feature local food trucks on hand to provide concessions. This year has seen a revival of drive-in movies across the United States, often advertised through vintage movie poster printing and other promotional tools, as a way to offer a socially-distant version of a night out at the theater. Flicks & Frights is also part of SeaWorld’s attempt to rebrand itself as a more general interest amusement park with the addition of rides and other attractions.

Flicks & Frights will take place at SeaWorld Orlando every Friday night leading up to the final show on October 31 (featuring, of course, Halloween). Additional events will take place on October 23 and 30.
