College in Orlando receives major gift for nursing students

The University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando has received a gift of $2 million from the William R. Kenan Jr. Charitable Trust to support those pursuing a career change to nursing. Second degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students will now be able to receive scholarships and additional services to support their academic success.

The second-degree BSN program at UYCF is an accelerated one that provides students who already have a bachelor’s degree in another field to change their careers to healthcare. The Knight Nurse Academic Center for Success (KNACS) of the College of Nursing, which provides group study sessions, tutoring services, personalized coaching, and workshops on academic wellness.

Each student in the program beginning with the cohort of the summer of 2026 and continuing through the summer of 2028 will receive a scholarship of $5,000. This will cover all expenses for tuition and fees. Another $200,000 will be allocated by the trust to fund membership fees in the Student Nurse Association, the KNACS, and travel for conferences.
