A celebration of Black History Month will be held by the Orlando VA Healthcare System (OVAHCS).
Titled “Foundational Black Contributions to the American Society,” the celebration will be held at the Orlando VA Medical Center on Veterans Way. Staff, veterans, and members of the community will be able to come together to honor the lasting impact of Black Americans on the progress, culture, and history of this country.
There will be interactive activities, reflection, and music throughout the event that recognize the significant contributions of trailblazers, service members, innovators, and leaders who were Black, and whose influence still shapes American society.
Songs of Soul will kick off the event in the Crescent Room and set the tone of reflection through music. This will be followed by a formal celebration in auditorium, after which there will be prizes and games.
The Program Support Assistant of the OVAHCS, Latricia Salters, talked of the opportunities Black History Month brings for people to unite, learn from each other, and ensure the contributions of Black Americans across the generations are honored.
Such special celebratory events can be promoted throughout a city with poster printing.
This program will be from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm on Friday, February 13. It is free to attend and people can register by going to the US Department of Veterans Affairs website.
