This year, the annual Zimmerman Kiser Sutcliffe Winter Park Road Race will provide proceeds to the Meridian Club of Winter Park Scholarship Fund.
This fund awards college scholarships to those graduating high school at four local schools. This popular road race often sells out, as it is the finale race of the annual Track Shack Running Series. Track Shack organizes this event and operates its business out of nearby Orlando.
This race offers runners an opportunity to run two distances and a distance dare open to walkers and runners through scenic Winter Park streets. A two-mile run begins at 7:00 am and a 10K run at 7:30 am. Distance Dare runners will run both races but need to be able to finish the two-mile run under 30 minutes in order to start the 10K on time. Race organizers often use banner printing services to provide runners opportunity to see that “finish” sign at the end of a long run.
Along with the event supplying funds to the Meridian Club, which since 1977 has provided over $300,000 to help students continue their education, the race is also honoring the late Dr. James Barnett M.D. Dr. Barnett attended this race yearly and always encouraged the use of fitness, including running, to help his patients improve their health.
