This December will see a unique music “festival” kick off in Orlando, aiming to offer outdoor and socially distant musical performances for months to come.
The Frontyard Festival will offer a variety of music, dance and wellness events. The festival will kick off with a double header of high-energy funk and pop performers Citizen Cope and G. Love. The month will also see a number of holiday performances with titles ranging from “Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s Wild & Swinging Holiday Party” to “El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico: Mega Latin Christmas”, as well as a visit from Grammy-winning folk artists Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires on December 10.
Social distancing restrictions have forced live music to adapt and innovate, and the Frontyard Festival is no exception. Audience members will purchase an elevated private box for up to 5 household members, allowing for a more comfortable experience than the often-packed music festival crowds. Instead of featuring a number of artists playing at once, the festival will continue for six months, culminating in a performance from jazz legend Wynton Marsalis in May. Socially distant concerts have ranged from drive-in shows to live streams, but still use tools like poster printing and radio advertising to spread the word.
Frontyard Festival will launch on December 5 with the Citizen Cope and G. Love performance, and close with Marsalis on May 21, 2021. All shows will take place on the lawn areas in front of the Dr. Phillips Center in downtown Orlando.
