What's Happening in Orlando, FL…

The 11th annual WORLDSymposium for lysosomal diseases is coming to the Hyatt Regency Orlando this month.

The event is geared towards researchers, genetic counselors, patient advocacy groups, and others who want to learn more about the latest discoveries and clinical applications of these diseases.

WORLDSymposium will feature information from research, basic science, and clinical trials for lysosomal diseases so as to help clinicians and other researchers better understand and manage the options in diagnosing patients, as well as finding those areas for which additional research, regulatory attention, and public policy is required. Attendees can also learn more about the latest findings in the natural history of lysosomal diseases.

At the conference, there will be keynote speakers and numerous sessions over a period of three days. At the banquet on the last night of the conference, the New Treatment Award will be given to four new therapies that have achieved regulatory approval. There will also be poster sessions, where poster printing was most likely used by the presenters in making their preparations for their talks.

There are more than 50 genetically inherited disorders that are considered lysosomal storage diseases, and these are characterized by the deficiency of an enzyme so that undigested material accumulates in a cell leading, eventually to cell degeneration.

WORLDSymposium will be held from February 9 through February 13.
