Orlando station to highlight Womens World Cup
The FIFA Women’s World Cup is taking place at the moment, and Orlando station WOFL – Channel 35 is planning to run several specials to commemorate the event.
Titled ‘Countdown to the Cup’ the half hour specials will feature, among other stories, a few Orlando Pride players who are participating in the World Cup games.
Although the games will be played in France, local businesses will likely hold watch parties and play the games for visiting patrons. The series will also focus on local attractions and businesses that celebrate the countries playing in the games, some of which may use print shops to produce promotional products to enhance the experience for those watching the games.
The 2019 World Cup will bring renewed excitement for the United States, who are the defending champions – a moment that will likely be reminisced upon several times during the specials – and they stamped their authority on the competition with a 13-0 win over Thailand yesterday.
The first special will air this Sunday, June 16, at 11:00 am. Among the members of Team USA are the Orlando Pride teammates Alex Morgan, Ali Krieger, and Ashlyn Harris.
Hosted by Adam Shadoff and Evan Fitzgerald, the series will cover highlights of the games and include analysis from former professional players Jenny Chiu, Ricardo Villar (currently CEO of Florida Cup) and Miguel Gallardo (currently a broadcast analyst for the Orlando City Soccer Club).
The remaining broadcasts will be held at 1:30 pm on Thursday, June 27, June 28, and July 2.
