The city of Orlando, in its efforts to address affordable housing and homelessness, has converted what was once the Ambassador Hotel into the Palm Gardens Orlando Apartments.
Located off Westmoreland Drive and Colonial Street, the Plam Gardens will have 150 units when completed, offering one-bedroom and studio units. There will be 149 units with one bedroom to be reserved for people who earn 80 percent or less of the median income in the area. The monthly rent for a studio will start at $900 while the monthly rent for a unit with one bedroom will start at $1,195.
There are several options for public transportation that are close to the apartments including AMTRAK, SunRail, LYNX Public Bus Service, and Orlando International Airport.

This is the first project that has been approved for funding from the Accelerate Orlando initiative. The funding agreement calls for an affordability period of 30 years starting from the date that all completed units have been leased. Any increase in rent each year will be constrained by rates set by the Florida Housing Finance Corporation to ensure that the units remain affordable.
Currently 95 units have been completed with applications for these units now available. The remaining 55 units are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
