Several projects will soon be undertaken at Orlando Sanford Airport.

The Sanford Airport Authority has been authorized by the city of Sanford to rehabilitate both runway 9L/27R and the terminal apron, and to add more than 800 parking spaces. This work is expected to cost $36m, of which $13m will be covered in bonds issued by the city.

The rehabilitation of Runway 9L includes improvements to the main commercial runway of the airport. The Florida Department of Transportation, the Federal Aviation Administration, and local funding are helping to pay for this project. The goal is to start work on this project this month with an expected completion date of the fall of 2026.

Bidding on the remote parking lot started last month with the project due to be completed by November of this year. The parking lot will reduce the need to use overflow parking but will not eliminate it. Banner printing is often used at such airports to inform the public of current and future developments.

The president and CEO of Orlando Sanford International Airport, Nicole Martz, said an estimated one million more people will be using the airport within the next 10 years, which underlines the need for more parking. Martz added that those who travel need to have the best possible experience at the airport, with convenience and ease from the moment they arrive at the airport when they park.
