Major roadway project to take place in Orlando

Improvements along Delaney Avenue will soon begin, with major upgrades coming to the infrastructure of the street.

The project covers about one mile along Delaney Avenue, from Michigan Street to Briercliff Drive. It will take place over four phases to ensure minimal disruption to daily life. Each phase is expected to last about four months.

The work will include creating a brick roadway in the historic district of Orlando from Briercliff Drive to just south of the Miller Street roundabout. The idea is to preserve the unique heritage of the area. The section of the roadway south of Briercliff Drive will have a new asphalt roadway.

The east side of the project will have wider sidewalks where possible to ensure safety for pedestrians. There will be stormwater improvements to mitigate flood risks and address drainage concerns, as well as upgraded sewer systems to improve reliability and efficiency. Stormwater drainage will also be aided with new gutters and curbs.

New pedestrian ramps compliant with ADA guidelines will make corners more accessible for everyone. Finally, two roundabouts will be installed at Grant Street and Miller Street, improving traffic flow and safety. Speed tables will be added to calm traffic, and all landscape islands that exist will be removed.

More details about such projects and work during each phase is often provided with flyer printing.

This project is expected to be completed next winter.
