Major bank to add to workforce in Orlando

Three hundred people are expected to be hired by JPMorgan Chase & Co. over the next two years in the Orlando area.

JPMorgan plans to renovate its campus in central Florida which spans 250,000 square feet. There are currently over 2,000 employees working on the campus which serves primarily the credit card and consumer banking divisions. The renovation will create 400 jobs in construction and contribute close to $280 to the economy in the area.

The head of operations for Chase for Business, which is based in Orlando, Vikas Kapoor, said that although the city is known as a major destination for entertainment and fun, there is a tremendous opportunity for business diversification in the region.

Chief Executive Officer Jamie Dimon said that JPMorgan has been adding to its presence in Texas and Florida. The location in downtown Tampa is currently expanding and a campus on the outskirts of the city is being renovated. The number of employees in the Miami office doubled earlier this year.

Other investments made by the firm in Florida include 13 new branches of Chase in the Cape Canaveral and Orlando area and a donation of $500,000 to a local training program for the semiconductor industry.
