Hundreds of customers turn out for new Trader Joes

Trader Joe’s, a California-based grocery store with 400 locations across the United States, recently opened a store in Winter Park just outside of Orlando.

The store’s Fearless Flyer mailer, perhaps produces by a local flyer printing company, was used to inform the community of the new store and generate enthusiasm in the community. As a result, more than 300 people turned out for opening day.

The grand opening had a Hawaiian theme, which is an opening day tradition for the store, and featured a lei cutting ceremony. A lei is a wreath of flowers given as a symbol of affection in Hawaii, and employees greeted customers by handing leis out to them while music played in the background.

The 12,000 square foot store is known for its wines and private-label foods, and artistic pieces depicting local landscapes and scenery are also a hallmark of the store. There is artwork of the Scenic Boat Tour in the city, the Morse Museum, and the skyline of downtown Orlando. Cindy Anderson, an employee of the store, painted new artwork on a makeshift table for the egg section.

Many customers had lined up before dawn and were able to get in when the store opened at 8:30 am. Some took home not just their favorite items but shopping carts full or merchandise. A mere 20 minutes after the opening, employees had to restock the shelves with Two-Buck Chuck, a famous and popular item in the store.
