The Orlando Sentinel Family Fund Holiday Campaign recently announced that it is making special contributions this year to Boys Town Central Florida, which has a goal to save children with a parenting program that provides strategies and communication techniques for parents who may be struggling with the behavior of their children.
The Orlando Sentinel is no doubt taking advantage of flyer printing and poster printing to make those parents in the community aware that such a program exists, so that they can find alternatives to physical discipline when dealing with their children.
According to the coordinator of the Common Sense Parenting Program offered by Boys Town, Bethany Lacey, the parents enrolling in the program are not necessarily bad parents, but perhaps lack the skills needed to be more effective when dealing with their children. As the Boys Town program focuses on the parents of teens and pre-teens, Lacey added that the disruptive behavior of these age groups can be more challenging to deal with than with children under the age of 10. How a parent deals with disruptive behavior of a teenager can either cause it to escalate or be resolved.
The Common Sense Parenting Program offered by Boys Town Central Florida is often ordered by the court through the family court in Seminole County. There have been about 150 grandparents, parents and legal guardians who have successfully been through the program in 2012. The program is one of the many offered by Boys Town, which is located in Oviedo, Nebraska, and was founded in 1917.
