The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation has awarded the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando a grant of $1.64 million for scholarship for graduates of Title 1 high schools in Orange County to help them pursue and earn a college degree.
These scholarships can be used towards expenses such as housing and Books which financial aid often does not cover. This can help eliminate additional barriers that often prevent students from enrolling or remaining in college.
Preferences for these scholarships go to students participating in the Downtown Scholars Initiative of UCF. This provides high school students showing promise in the urban neighborhoods of Orlando with the support network so they can attend and be successful at UCF. Forty-six students from Evans, Jones, Colonial, Oak Ridge, and Wekiva high schools will be awarded these scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year. An amount of $2,500 will be given to each student every year for up to four years.
News of such awards can be made known throughout a college community and the respective schools with poster printing.
CEO and senior vice president for Advancement and Partnerships of the UCF Foundation, Rod Grabowski, expressed his gratitude to the generosity and leadership of the DeLuca Foundation. He said that this investments will enable students to reach their potential and thrive in college and in later years.
