A new outdoor concert series in the Orlando area will offer listeners a variety of musical experiences, from comedy to funk.
The Concerts Under the Stars series is a production of the Lake Wales Arts Council and Bok Towers Gardens, and aims to offer a safe and music experience for music lovers from Lake Wales and nearby areas like Orlando.
The series will include a tribute to jazz legend Miles Davis performed by Tampa-based band leader Paul Gavin, his group Mosaic, and veteran trumpeter James Suggs. Two weeks, later the Gardens will play host to Gary Mule Deer, who presents a humorous version of country music and has made hundreds of television appearances on late-night talk shows and other programming.
The series will conclude, at least for now, with up-and-coming octet Reverend Barry & The Funk. The group includes Grammy nominees in drummer Ray C. Williams and vocalist Yaya Diamond, as well as several other experienced musicians, including the eponymous “Reverend” Barry Nicholson. The Gardens will also be providing a limited menu of food and drink items through its Blue Palmetto Cafe as well as a concessions tent with snacks. Outdoor concerts like this, often promoted through flyer printing and local radio, are a popular attraction year-round in Florida, but have especially boomed in popularity over the past year.
The Miles Davis tribute show will take place on March 26, with Gary Mule Deer performing on April 9 and Reverend Barry & The Funk on April 23.
