Ocoee class sizes to be reduced to meet state policy
Schools in Ocoee will soon see smaller class sizes.
Orange County schools will be reducing the number of students in classes in order to meet the new standards set under the Florida Class Size Reduction Amendment. This is already taking place in some of the educational institutions in the area, and staff are doing their best to make it is as undisruptive to their pupils as possible.
Under the new rules, class sizes in the core subjects such as science, English, and math can only have a certain number of children in them. There can be no more than 18 students per classroom for those in grades prekindergarten to four, and 22 for fourth to eighth grade. For ninth to twelfth grade, the maximum number is 25.
According to Bill Floyd, who is principal at Ocoee High School, the decision about who to move is based on many factors, including minimizing schedule changes and who will be the easiest to place in a smaller classroom. Direct mail printing services can be used to send out information to parents about the changes so that they will know and understand what is going on, as well as give them a number to contact should they have further questions.
Floyd pointed that because the schools in his country already have relatively small class sizes, they have only had to hire one new teacher.
