Miami event to team up special needs kids with veterans

An activity that will see military combat veterans working with special needs kids has been planned for Miami.

Villa Lyan Academy and RivMan Charities have partnered to offer Battle Buddies, which is a day of activities for vets and special needs children. The former military members, who have been specially trained to work with the youngsters, will team up with the participants to help them navigate through an obstacle course in an effort to win one of the top three spots.

The veterans will mentor and guide each child, helping them to achieve success and complete the course. The child’s whole family, and also their friends, are invited to come out as well and show their support, and they can even try out the course for themselves. According to the organizers, this will not only help the younger folk develop confidence in themselves, it also supports good mental health in those who have served their country. Graphic design can be used to craft special awards and certificates to give to each child who takes part.

Battle Buddies has been planned for May 20 in Tropical Park, which can be found at 7900 SW 40th Street in Miami. Admission is free for veterans and kids with special needs, while for the general public, it will be $20.00 to try the course. General admission for people who wish to support their child, or a vet will be $5, and further details can be found on the event’s Facebook page.
