Beginning the last Monday in June, Miami police began enforcing a curfew between 11:00 pm and 6:00 am during the week, and midnight to 6:00 am in the small hours of Saturdays and Sundays.
According to city officials, police will have the right to request personal identification from anyone they suspect may be a minor. Those discovered to be breaking the curfew will be given a citation and escorted either to their homes. A $500 fine will be levied against parents should teens be escorted on three separate instances.
The purpose of the curfew is to keep minors safe by preventing them from congregating in public areas. Numerous exemptions to the curfew exist to enable young people with legitimate reasons to be out during the restricted times. A flyer printing service could help in familiarizing the public with the exemptions.
Traveling is permitted from work directly home, in an emergency situation, and to return from an event that began prior to 10 pm.
Those who are legally married are exempt from the curfew as are those traveling with a note, indicating they are running an errand for a parent, or who are accompanied by someone 21 years or older.
Moreover, youngsters will not be considered in violation of the curfew when standing on the sidewalk in front of their own home.
