Institute of Contemporary Art ready for groundbreaking

A date of November 16 has been chosen for Miami’s soon to be Institute of Contemporary Art to hold its groundbreaking.

The new art museum will be located in the Design District on 41st street. The land that the three-story, 37,000-square-foot building is to sit on was contributed by the Miami Design District Associates. Designed by Aranguren & Gallegos Arquitectos, a Madrid architecture firm, the Art Institute will be the firm’s first foray into designing a building in the U.S.

While a previous estimate had the project’s completion date falling around the same time as Art Basel 2016, the groundbreaking is taking place later than anticipated, so the opening will delayed until the first half of 2017. An officially designated completion date has yet to be decided upon and the budget for the project is uncertain as well, according to Irma Braman.

Before the time comes to engage a banner printing service to announce the new art museum’s grand opening, a logo will likely be designed for the institute’s Letterheads.

Irma and her husband Norman Braman have taken the lead in the project, as well as providing much of the money, along with generous members of the board. Braman feels that the museum’s location is a good one due to the eclectic architectural nature of the neighborhood. The new museum, which will be near the existing de la Cruz Collection of Contemporary Art, will add to the community’s diversity.
