The 39th Coconut Grove Bahamian Goombay Festival is on the roster for community events in Miami.
Sponsored by Taste of Brickell and the Food & Wine Festival, this signature parade will start marching on McDonald Street, make its way down to Grand Avenue on Hibiscus Street, and stop at the final destination of Elizabeth Virrick Park. This cultural festival celebrates the ancestral roots of a Bahamian community living in Coconut Grove.
It is also the perfect occasion for supplying relief to victims of Hurricane Dorian. For many years, there were Junkanoo Goombay parades with performers playing an ensemble of drums, whistles, and bells. Some of the Junkanoo dancers wore colorful costumes, marching beside the stilt walkers and the royal police force.
A few activities are planned, leading up to the biggest one on Saturday, namely the Historical Cemetery Clean-Up and the Unveiling of the Official Poster. Art students from local schools will be able to compete in a contest. In addition, a guest speaker is going to lecture about the rich history of West Grove.
There will be vendors selling a variety of Caribbean seafood dishes, served with craft beer and rums. Lastly, DJ Carl Springer will play live music at the festival which, at the time of writing, is set to begin on May 16 at 12:00 pm. Event organizers can use brochure printing to hand out Brochures that list some activities at festivals like this one.
